Providing tools, aid, and refuge to survivors of the yoga scene since 2007...
Babylon Yoga is a grass-roots, independent, nonorthodox and dogma-free Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Sangha (community) in Vancouver, Canada
It is with both sadness and joy (mostly joy) that I'm writing to you all at this time with this very special announcement: After 7 and a half years (to the day) of daily ashtanga yoga classes, Babylon's Mysore program is going to be ending affectively immediately (Friday May 29 is our last class). It's a long story, but those of you who are close to us know how difficult it has been for us over the years to keep our program alive and real, and it is now no longer serving us to maintain this direction.
Big change is coming for Natasha and I as we work towards our goal of moving out of Vancouver and into our house on Gambier Island full-time by the end of this year. We're both in the process of finding suitable employment out on the Sunshine Coast area and this process is going to require all our efforts and attention. We've thought long and hard about trying to keep Babylon's Mysore program going while we make this transition, but at the end of the day, we're going to need as much energy as we can muster to make our dream reality. Originally we had arranged for Geoff to teach for me this summer while I was away looking for work, but it turns out that it just makes more sense for him to accept an offer given to him to teach out of Chopra Yoga Centre (http://www.choprayoga.com/vancouver/) instead because the financial incentive is way more realistic, and Geoff deserves to be payed what he's worth. We're going to be practicing with him there throughout the summer, and I hope that you plan on it as well. (He's also teaching out of AYV for the month of June!)
So what's going to become of Babylon Yoga? Well, we don't really know. For now I'm going to keep the website and Facebook page up. Perhaps in a few days or weeks or months I'll develop a plan to carry the name forward in some capacity. I might teach workshops or hold retreats on Gambier Island. I may continue to make videos(I'm messing around with the idea of a youtube channel). Or I may find a full-time job doing something completely new (first-aid?) and stop teaching yoga altogether! I'm open to anything! We just don't know what's going to happen at this point, but it's exciting for us to face this uncertainty because we know the Universe has our back, and She won't let us drift out here in the unknown for too long because (apparently) She sometimes needs us to do Her dirty work!!! What a blessing!
So this is not an occasion to be sad…all things come to pass…all things! And that is the ultimate teaching of yoga: we're eternal spirit caught up in a permanently changing environment. We suffer when we resist change, and we thrive when we open up to new growth. It's a no-brainer. Babylon Yoga will go down in history as one of the most unique yoga schools to have ever come into being, and I'm so proud and so very honoured to have been able to have worked with all of you over the years. Thank you for your confidence, support and love.
I wish you all luck and true inner peace! Stay in touch and keep your eyes and ears open for updates and news. The direction of the yoga scene depends on us. It really does.
Forever your fellow yoga student,
